While browsing in my favourite independent bookstore the other day, Folio Books, I came across The Giraffe’s Neck by Judith Schalansky. Since childhood I’ve had a real thing for giraffes – think it must have something to do with the grace with which they carry their awkward frame (they never look phased by anything!) and of course their wise and gentle eyes.
Anyway, so in this context Schalanksy’s title may have been an impulse buy. These days it is very rare for me not to read a review or two before investing in a title, so we shall just have to wait and see how this little burst of spontaneity works out for me.
I received a copy of Jilliane Hoffman’s latest thriller All The Little Pieces for review, and am looking forward to diving into this chunky title. To celebrate its release, the lovely people from Harper Collins Australia have also provided a paperback copy for giveaway (entries open to Australian mailing addresses) – ENTER NOW.
Spinifex Press are releasing Aussie author Hoa Pham’s latest novel titled Wave in July – a short but moving work exploring diversity and loss – my review coming soon.
