After many years of anticipation, The Book Thief movie is a reality. There is already debate as to whether it could be the sleeper in the Oscars race – early reviews have praised the performances of Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.
The film received its low-key world premiere at the Mill Valley Film Festival, in Northern California, where it received a standing ovation. (SMH)
The Book Thief movie will start showing in cinemas across the US on November 15. Unfortunately Australian audiences will have to wait until January 9 to see the cinematic interpretation of this much loved book by Aussie author Markus Zusak. It will then be released across Europe at the end of January and February.
For such a darkly themed story, the cinematography in the movie trailer looks stunning and I just love the movie tagline – “Courage beyond words”.
I’m pleased that a cover with a more literary feel is being released alongside the movie themed one. No matter how great the movie, I believe The Book Thief should be first and foremost identified as a piece of literature.
