Perhaps I am a little behind the times, but did you know that Markus Zusak’s THE BOOK THIEF is finally being made into a movie?
Here is what it says on Zusak’s website, The City At Our Feet:
“In February, 2013, filming of The Book Thief began by Fox 2000 in Berlin, directed by Emmy award-winning Brian Percival (Downton Abbey). The cast includes Academy Award winner Geoffrey Rush (Shine, The King’s Speech) and Academy Award nominee Emily Watson (Breaking the Waves, Anna Karenina), as well as exciting new talent Sophie Nelisse (Monsieur Lazhar) as the book thief, Liesel Meminger.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Rush and Watson will play the roles of Liesel’s foster parents. Apparently Ben Schnetzer will play Max Vandenburg, Jewish refugee and Nico Liersch, will play Liesel’s friend, Rudy Steiner.
I think the cast looks excellent. So pleased to see Aussie actor Geoffrey Rush in the wonderful role of Hans Hubermann.
According to IMBb, The Book Thief will be released in the US in January 2014. I haven’t been able to find a release date for Australia yet, but am hoping it will be at least the same time or earlier since the internationally bestselling novel it is based upon was written by Aussie author Markus Zusak!
What are your thoughts on the casting for The Book Thief movie?
Also, while you are here, what do you think of the latest Random House UK cover art featured at the beginning of this post?
It is very literal, but nonetheless I like it a lot.
